Bourbon Street Comes to Life at SugarHill

(HOUSTON, TEXAS) – October 3rd, 2005- SugarHill Recording Studios hosted a very special live music event to support musicians displaced by deadly Hurricane Katrina that hit the shores of Louisiana last September.

Twenty New Orleans musicians got together to perform live at SugarHill Recording Studios with Houston jazz pianist/composer extraordinaire Paul English to bring back the spirit and the sounds of the Big Easy. The performance was engineered by SugarHill’s Chief Engineer Andy Bradley and was broadcast live on KPFT Pacifica 90.1FM, on the Joe Montes Roadhouse Show on October 1st, 2005.

All the musicians were contacted through NOAHleans’ network of musicians; a newly born organization, founded by Paul English, with the sole objective of finding immediate work for displaced New Orleans professional musicians and helping them to become part of the Houston community. This is being made possible through the creation of a comprehensive directory of New Orleans musicians that includes names and relevant contact information, so that studios, clubs and other musicians can contact them for work.

NOAHleans
also helps musicians by accepting charitable donations through the umbrella 501(c)3 and sister organization, the Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston. Donations allow disbursements to victims for immediate need not covered by other aid groups, such as musical instruments, transportation to and from gigs and work clothes.
