Modulator Brings "Avenger" to SugarHill

(HOUSTON, TEXAS) – May 10th, 2005 – Indie-Synth Pop band Modulator is currently recording their anticipated single titled “Avenger” at SugarHill Recording Studios with Staff Engineer, John Griffin. Griffin is also co-producing the record with the band.

Modulator is a five-piece band from Houston, Texas that combines a unique mix of American guitar rock with European synth-pop. Their vast array of influences include 60s lounge, 70s progressive and punk rock, 80s new wave and 90s indie rock.

The band released 2 EP’s, one of which was produced by Ex-Psychedelic Furs keyboardist Ed Buller, titled Don’t Hold Out On Me. Buller is notorious for his work with Suede, Pulp and Stabbing Westward. It wasn’t long before their music got recognized and was featured on several episodes of MTV’s The Real World.

After setting out on an extensive East and West coast US tour in 2004, the band decided to record the single “Avenger” at SugarHil.  Lead vocalist and synth player Julie Zamora commented, “Just about everywhere we went, people wanted to purchase a recording of “Avenger”. That is what motivated us to place top priority on this song.”

Tracked in SugarHill’s Studio B and mixed in Studio C, the project was recorded and mixed in Protools 24 MIX3.   Modulator’s sound is heavily influenced by some of the more rare gear used on the song. The band used a Roland Juno 106 for the synth leads and textures, as well as a pristine Fender Rhodes Suitcase piano.

Zamora further commented on the band’s experience with Engineer John Griffin; “John is one of the most experienced engineers we’ve ever worked with, but his musical background is what helped him capture the best performances from the band – he’s kind of like the sixth member of Modulator.”

The band plans to shop the single to record labels, and post-production companies to be used for TV or film.  The CD release date remains unconfirmed.
