SugarHill Artists Captivate the Houston Press Music Awards
(HOUSTON, TEXAS) –July 20th, 2005– It’s that time of the year again, as the Houston Press rounds up this year’s nominees for it’s highly anticipated Houston Press Music Awards for 2005.
Dan Workman (President of SugarHill Recording Studios and Dan Workman Music ) was pleased to see that 22 of the 33 categories featured artists that have recorded at the legendary SugarHill Recording Studios.
“SugarHill has become part of the fabric of the Houston music scene, and it’s good to see that our work and the artists that have recorded at SugarHill are getting the recognition they deserve” were Workman’s comments on the nominations .
Dan Workman’s work has been recognized at a national and a regional level with a career in the music that spans over 15 years; Workman has recorded acclaimed national acts such as Destiny’s Child, Beyonce and ZZ Top, in addition to producing numerous local artists including Southern Backtones. Southern Backtones are nominated for best Roots Rock/Rockability.

- Drop Trio - BEST FUNK/R&B/REGGAE
- Glenna Bell - BEST FOLK/ACOUSTIC
- Glenna Bell, Jessica Zweback (SkyBlue 72), Julie Zamora (Modulator) - BEST FEMALE VOCALIST
- John Evans - LOCAL ARTIST OF THE YEAR
- Arthur Yoria & Tody Castillo - SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR
- “Independence Day” by Tody Castillo - SONG OF THE YEAR
- Circling the Drain by John Evans & Pachuco Boogie Sound System by Los Skarnales - ALBUM OF THE YEAR
