Drop Trio Back on Track with Cezanne
(HOUSTON, TEXAS) –October 31st, 2005– Popular Houston Funk/Jazz group, Drop Trio, have just released their latest album Cezanne; a live recording from Houston’s award winning jazz club, Cezanne’s. The album was recorded live in an acoustic setting and mixed by SugarHill Engineer, John Griffin in SugarHill’s Studio C. Griffin has tracked and mixed their previously acclaimed releases Big Dipper (2003) followed by Leap (2004).
The award winning band are Nuje Blattel on drums, Patrick Flannagan on bass and Ian Varley on keyboards. Drop Trio nabbed 3 awards at the Houston Press Music Awards in 2005, including Best Jazz, Best Funk/R&B/Reggae and Best Keyboardist (Ian Varley).
“We spend most of our time playing electric, so it was great to play a heavily acoustic show," says Varley. “Playing at Cezanne’s on the grand piano brings out an organic vibe in these tunes, and shows the unity we’ve achieved as a group”.
The 76-minute album consists of reggae, funk and swing influences, in addition to new treatments of their experimental improvised studio album Leap and their debut album Big Dipper.
SugarHill Mixing Engineer John Griffin describes the mixing experience: “Mixing a live record is a challenge because it’s not a controlled environment like the studio, but the Drop Trio are such good players that it came together quite easily.”
