SugarHill's Hit Making Engineer in the Sixties Passes Away

(HOUSTON, TEXAS) – September 5th, 2006 – SugarHill Recording Studios’ has recently lost one of its most prolific engineers in its 65 years of music making history.

Doyle Jones was a SugarHill engineer (then called Goldstar Studios) from December 1964 to January 1966 and has recorded a string of hits during his recording career at SugarHill/ Gold Star and after.

Some of the hits Jones engineered at SugarHill/Gold Star include Sir Douglas Quintet’s first self-titled album, which includes their hit record “She’s About A Mover”. He also worked on Roy Head and The Traits’ hit single “Treat Her Right," The Pozo Seco Singers single “Time," Clifton Chenier’s first album and Gaylan Latimer and The Dawgs’ first album.

After leaving SugarHill/Gold Star he started his own recording studio Jones Recording, and recorded a number of hit records up to 1973’ including Mickey Gilley and Archie Bell and The Drells’ “Tighten Up”.

Between 1973 to early 1974, Jones shut down the studio and converted it to cassette duplicating house which eventually became a notable CD duplication house called Jones CD duplication.

Doyle Jones’ extensive tape library was recently transported to SugarHill Recording Studios for storage.
