SugarHill Donates Studio Time to Charity Contest Winners
(HOUSTON, TEXAS) – September 29th, 2005- The Bellaire MENS Club (BMC) is excited at the announcement of SugarHill Recording Studios donating studio time to the winners of the annual BMC Battle of the Bands concert. BMC is a male youth community service that organizes an annual Battle Of the Bands charity concert that pledges 100% of the ticket sales to a local non-profit.
“This is great news for the bands participating in the BMC B.O.B. charity concert. Bands have always donated their time knowing they are helping the cause and this marks the first time bands playing will receive a grand prize of this type,” says Jake Hightower, BMC B.O.B. charity concert coordinator for The Bellaire MENS Club.
SugarHill Recording Studios has pledged over twelve-hours of recording time in their big studio, Studio A. The grand prize, valued at over a thousand dollars, also includes an engineer for tracking and mixing, along with a demo CD. The donation comes courtesy of owner and longtime record producer, Dan Workman, who will also serve as a celebrity judge.
“I like the concept of high school students organizing a battle of the bands to raise funds for a charity, while at the same time providing exposure for young musicians.” Mentions Dan Workman, President/owner of SugarHill Recording Studios.
“I believe this is a great way to support the local music scene as SugarHill has had a long-standing tradition of supporting local musicians and providing opportunities for them to grow.” commented Heba Kadry Marketing and Promotions Manager of SugarHill Recording Studios .
An expected crowd of 400 to 500 Bellaire and Southwest Houston students and parents will attend the third annual Bellaire MENS Club’s Battle Of the Bands (BMC B.O.B. for short) charity concert showcasing talent from private schools like Strake Jesuit and St. Thomas Episcopal, and HISD’s Lamar and Bellaire High School will perform. Judging the event is a panel of TV personalities, recording industry professionals, community leaders and local business owners. Money raised on Saturday, October 22nd will go to The River Performing and Visual Arts Center (The River) an arts enrichment program for children of all abilities and those with disabilities. BMC B.O.B. will be held at the historic Westbury Square (5425 West Bellfort), from 12:00pm to 4:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 pre-sell and $7.00 at the door.
The charity concert is part of the BMC’s commitment to give back to the Bellaire and Southwest Houston communities and is just one of the many philanthropic projects the club undertakes each year. Community service projects are planned by the group and implemented by the student officers, allowing students to gain leadership, business, self-development and life skills.
