Nina

Nina Nastasia with Jim White,

Thursday, October 4, 2007

"Nina Nastasia's rare gift of a voice is an intimate, winged presence that is able to either freeze or melt your heart, that can powerfully soar and twist, or brush gently against you, suddenly summoning goosebumps."

"Jim White, the peerless drummer of beloved Australian instrumental trio Dirty Three," has a playing style that is "simultaneously loose and lithe, intensely tight" yet "testing and marking out the spaces around things."

Tuesday November 27th - Double Bill: Alasdair Roberts & Charalambides

Alasdair Roberts is a Scottish singer and guitarist. Raised in Callander, Central Scotland, he has been based in Glasgow for the past ten years. The Times of London raves "with skeletal singing, scraping fiddles, sinister drones and unwavering, death-like tempos, he discovers the inner mystery of traditional music and shows that if this infinitely expressive material is respected, it may yet reward us with results that sound utterly unprecedented."

Charalambides follow in the footsteps of other Texas psychedelic music artists such as the 13th Floor Elevators, Red Crayola, and Jandek.  This Houston group, now based in Austin, is sure to have plenty of local fans at the show, so get your tickets early!
